Student Accommodation Guide: Dorms vs. Apartments

Finding the right place to live is one of the most stressful parts of starting university. Your living situation directly impacts your academic performance, social life, and mental well-being. Let's break down your options.

University Dorms (On-Campus)

Pros: Extremely convenient location, utility bills and Wi-Fi are usually included, and it is the easiest way to make friends in your first year. Cons: Lack of privacy, strict rules, and noisy environments.

Private Student Housing (Off-Campus)

Pros: Better amenities (gyms, study rooms, en-suite bathrooms) and more independence while still retaining a student community feel. Cons: Can be significantly more expensive than university-run dorms. Always read the fine print regarding lease breaks and hidden fees.

Renting an Apartment

Pros: Ultimate freedom, choosing your own roommates, and learning real-world responsibilities. Cons: You have to deal with landlords, set up utilities, buy furniture, and handle all the cleaning and cooking. The initial deposit and setup costs can be very high.
